The fabulous Washington-Wilkes Middle School Tigers finished their undefeated regular season last week with a resounding win over Madison County 38-6 at Tiger Stadium.

The win put the young Tigers' record at an official 5-0 mark for 2007 but in his elation, Coach Don Keiser said he claiming a record of 6-0 by counting the October 5 intersquad game as a supplemental victory. "The Tigers won - there's no denying it!" he said.

The perfect season comes following just the opposite in 2006 when W-W was 0-4 in his debut season. He attributes the turnaround success to a great class of "seniors" and outstanding assistant coaches Tom Saggus, Keaton Wilson, Arthur Crew, and Lazarus Chennault. He also offered special thanks to varsity

coaches Chris Mason and Brian Usry for working with the Tigers in the weight room during the summer.

Against Madison County, the Tiger defense "played great and held them inside the 10-yard line twice," Keiser said. Middle linebacker Trent Martin and defensive end James McAvoy had a number of quarterback sacks between them, he reported.

Offensively, Eric Scott rushed for two touchdowns and had about 130 yards in the game. Deon Jackson ran a 60-yard touchdown and also picked off a Madison County pass and ran it back for a touchdown. Quarterback Taveras Jones was three-for-three passing for the game including a 45-yard strike to Demorris Jackson for the first touchdown pass of his career.
