Emily Brown James Emily Brown James, youngest daughter of Ficklen and Kate Smith Brown of the Bethel Church community, celebrated her 89th birthday on October 19.

Her nieces, Laura Wickersham Toburen and Kathy Wickersham Grosshans, helped Mrs. James celebrate with cake, balloons and cards of well wishes, in New Horizons North Nursing Home in Gainesville.

Mrs. James is a native of Wilkes County and has lived in Gainesville for the past 60 years. She is a retired school teacher. Her husband, Howard James, is deceased as well as her siblings, Ira Brown, Ellis Brown, Lou Ellen Brown Cofer and Katie Brown Wickersham, all of Washington.
