Ga. Baptist Assoc. churches meet at Penfield on Oct. 17
Thanks to all the churches of the Georgia Baptist Association that were represented at our 222nd annual fall meeting held with Penfield Baptist Church on Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Our song leader was Millie Mansfield of County Line Baptist Church with Fran Thaxton as pianist. The opening hymn was "To God Be the Glory."
The meeting was called to order by Rev. Norman Waldrip, moderator (a retired pastor from White Plains). The enrollment of messengers and adoption of the order of business was led by Turner Callaway, clerk of the association.
Rev. David Jordan, host pastor, gave a hearty welcome followed by Psalm 100 and prayer. Vice-moderator Rev. Keith Etheridge presided while Rev. Waldrip gave a report of the executive committee and appointment of the nominating committee.
Rev. Charles Drummond, ministry resource consultant, gave his report and Rev. Steve Rayner gave the associational camp report. Jonathan Gray gave a report on the Georgia Baptist Foundation and a representative from the Georgia Baptist Children's Home and Ministry, Allison Hutcheson of the Meansville Campus, brought everyone up to date on happenings there.
Rev. Bob Nash gave a report on the Penfield Christian Home and HEART ministries.
There was miscellaneous business followed by the Penfield Choir blessing our hearts with singing their favorite hymn, "Victory In Jesus." Tom Neal gave a report on the Cooperative Program.
Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by the men of Penfield Christian Home.
The Tuesday evening session began about 6:30 with Rev. Waldrip giving the call to order. Following the first hymn of the evening," Great Is Thy Faithfulness," Rev. Mike Harder, pastor of the Greensboro First Baptist Church, read scripture and prayed.
Bob Beeland of White Plains presented the names of deceased ministers and members in remembrance. A report from the resolutions committee was given by Robert Robinson, pastor of West End Baptist Church, Greensboro.
The Penfield Choir blessed everyone's hearts again by singing. There were a number of congregational hymns sung during the day and a few others who spoke.
We missed our director of missions, Rev. James Bland, whose mother-in-law was at the point of death in south Georgia and did pass away. Sincere sympathy to him and his wife Judy and all the family.
The most exciting part of the evening program was the moderator called on the vice-moderator to escort Lauree Shelton, our associational secretary, where she was totally surprised with a plaque for serving the association for 20 years in more ways than just secretary and in a loving way.
Rev. Terry Joiner, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Lincoln County, presented the mission sermon which topped the day's event.
The closing hymn was "Let Others See Jesus In You."
