James C. Thornton honored at 85th birthday BBQ, celebration James C. Thornton was honored on his 85th birthday at a barbecue and celebration given by his wife, Emily, at the VFW in Washington Saturday evening, October 21. His birthday was October 15. A casual country-western theme was used in decorating for the event. Red checked cloths covered the tables centered with garden flowers in pint Mason jars tied with raffia. A delicious barbecue dinner was served with all the trimmings. Topping off the dinner was a delicious birthday cake, a gift from Milton and Jeannette Broome. The cake, also featuring a country theme, was topped with cowboy hats and boots. Entertainment for the evening featured country music by the fivemember Reunion Band composed of Sammy Jones, Freddy Brown, Jeff Fanning, Danny Cosby and Jimmy Morse. A special number was "Look at Us" by Vince Gill. This was played for the Thorntons on their 50th wedding anniversary celebration 11 years ago. Nearly 100 guests attended. Special guests were the Thorntons' children, grandchildren and greatgrandchild, Johnny and Gail Thornton and T. J. of Boiling Springs, N.C.; Nick and Ashley Thornton of Purlear, N.C.; Mary Donna Lunceford, Bob and Elizabeth Lunceford and Brett Lunceford of Washington. Due to a work schedule granddaughter, Holly Lunceford, was unable to attend. In addition to extended family members and friends attending were Mike and Annette Frost of Shelby, N.C., and Rick and Beverly Gholston of Braselton. |
