RAYLE NEWS

By Bonnie Boatwright Call 274-3264

Well, we got our frost and then we got our rain, so everyone is happy. It has been a good week. Kenneth and Bonnie Poss have a new business in Rayle named Possum Café. It is open every day from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. I have heard it is real good. It was formerly the Snak Shak. Rev. John Mark Carpenter brought a powerful message to the congregation of Sardis Baptist Church Sunday morning and night. After the Sunday night service all the adults who had brought treats spread out in the church, Sunday School rooms and nursery and the children went trick or treating. After this, party foods were served with Coke and lemonade. All the children were so cute in their costumes. After the party they went on a hayride. It was fun to watch the children's excitement. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family of Joy Boatwright who passed away Tuesday evening. Funeral services were held at Sardis Baptist Church Saturday afternoon. She was a precious person and has a precious family who will miss her very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the family. She was only 61 years of age. Our heartfelt sympathy also goes out to the family of Charles Bridges who died suddenly and unexpectedly during the week. He was a good person and a friend to everyone. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The prayer list includes Fred Corbett, Kathryn Padgett, Pete Poss, Louise Pless, Thelma Favor, Roberta Roper, Stephanie Chapman, Ellie Frey, Seba Williamson, Bobby Parton, Mike Webb, Dorothy Callaway, Martha Williford, Faye Johnson, Thomas Wheatley, Gary Rogers, Sara Lynn Hyatt, Thomas Bunch, Ken Spooner and Chris Carpenter. Visitors of Fred Corbett and Barry Echols over the week have been Danny and Beverly Corbett, J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright, Charles and Nina Boatwright, Randy Boatwright, Ruth Flynt, Gene and Betty Winfrey, Tommy and Fran Thaxton, Rev. Albert Huyck, Turner Callaway, Rev. James Bland, Shirley Bufford, Pam Brown, Peggy Echols, Shawn Turner and Amber. Bonnie Boatwright enjoyed the spaghetti supper and meeting at the Rayle City Hall Friday night for the Rayle Ramble committee members. Approximately 20 people were present. Betty Berry joined Sybil Vaughn and attended church with her at Burt's United Methodist. Their pastor, Al Davis, was honored with a lovely dinner honoring him for his 50th birthday. Nina Boatwright and Randy Boatwright visited Ed and Velma Crooke Sunday afternoon in Lincolnton. Sudie Kennedy joined her sisterin law and her daughter, Jewel Barrett, and Edith McGill for a lovely trip to Pigeon Forge Monday through Tuesday of last week. They enjoyed the pretty leaves and also saw snow on the mountains. They had a wonderful time. Lyn Shedd and Chance Shedd enjoyed Sunday dinner with Johnny and Kathryn Shedd. Lindley Hall is recuperating at home from her knee surgery Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens. Her visitors have been W.C. Bentley, Josh Bufford, Krystle Kvalheim, Rev. and Mrs. John Mark Carpenter, Norris and Frances Ware, Martha Hall, and Sandy Whittington. Todd Ware came down to be with her at the hospital during the surgery. Ethan Armour, Wright Gunter and Trey Berry joined other FFA officers and attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, Wednesday through Saturday. Advisers of the club, Mr. Heaton and Mr. White, accompanied them. Congratulations to Neil and Kim Frankel on the birth of a boy, Bryce Nicholas, Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens. He weighed 4 lbs. 2 oz. and has two brothers, Zachery and Kyle. Clyde and Sandy Whittington are the proud grandparents. Visitors of Mrs. Ruby Arnold have been Faye Johnson, Nell Hubbard, Rhonda and Johnson, Crystal and Robert, Aaliya, Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Arnold, and Esther Dawson. Dorothy Callaway is at home from the hospital and slowly recuperating at her home with tender loving care from her family. Mrs. Ruby Arnold attended the funeral of Joy Boatwright Saturday afternoon and was glad to see an old friend, Ann Cook, from working at the Royal. Joann Perez and Frances Fendley enjoyed gallivanting in Lexington and while up there they visited Bertha Tiller. Visitors of Ralph and Elizabeth Smith have been Ann Wideman, Jean Harper, Janelle Waters and Frances Ann Shock of Elberton; Wayne and Peggy Smith of Atlanta; and Howard Smith who took Ralph out riding. Bonnie Boatwright, Frankie Jones of Athens, and Martha Jones of Bogart were treated by their brother, James Smith, at his home in Stephens with delicious barbecued chicken from a benefit his church, Antioch Baptist, was having. They watched the Bulldogs of Georgia lose, much to their dismay. This has been an annual event for the family. Sharon was at work and we missed her. Bonnie Boatwright and Kay Berry took in the fall festivities at Fountain Campground Saturday night. They enjoyed walking for cakes and bingo and seeing some of their friends there. Bonnie did her deed for the day when she sat down to play bingo by a nice lady from Thomson, Beth Broome. Bonnie had just been cake walking and told the lady she was burning up and the lady said she was freezing to death. Bonnie let the lady wear her coat which was not being used until going home time. It makes you feel good to help people. I don't know about all of you but I thought bedtime would never get here and I was so tired. It was a long day.
