Funeral services for Joy Phillips Boatwright, 61, of Rayle were held Saturday, October 28, 2006, at the Sardis Baptist Church, Rayle, with Dr. John Mark Carpenter officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. She died October 24.

Mrs. Boatwright was the daughter of Mildred Inez Story and the late William Mundy Phillips. She lived in Wilkes County all but the first 18 years of her life when she lived in McDuffie County. She was a homemaker and devoted mother and worked for the Civitan Club and

Special Olympics, and was the founder of "Extra Special People" in Athens.

Survivors include her husband, Alex Boatwright; a son, Alexander Boatwright III of Rayle; a daughter, Amy Boatwright, Rayle; her mother, Mildred Inez Phillips, Appling; two sisters, Gloria Phillips Colet of Hephzibah, and Sherene Phillips Nicholson of Saluda, S.C.; and two brothers, William E. Phillips, and Tommy Phillips, both of Thomson.

Hopkins Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
