Pregame at the Washington-Wilkes vs. Greene County football game this Friday will be a little different. Since the game is of added importance in that it will determine the sub-region champion for 8AA South, Greene County has set up a special group for the traditional pre-game coin toss.

Recognizing teams from 50 years ago, the host school will feature four members of the 1956 Greene County Tiger teams and one member of the Washington-Wilkes Tiger team as honorary captains for the game. However, one of the former Greene Tigers is now a prominent businessman in Wilkes County.

Lewis Brown was an outstanding tackle on the 1956 Greene County team which went all the way to the state finals that year before ending up as state runner-up. He will actually toss the coin at the beginning of this week's game.

Joining Brown on the field will be three of his Greene County teammates: Brandon Miller, Charles Turner, and Mickey Channell.

Miller went on from Greene County to play for the University of Georgia Bulldogs, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Baltimore Colts. Turner, who was an outstanding quarterback, played for the Dallas Cowboys. Channell did not continue his footbal career but is now the Georgia State Representative from House District 116.

Representing Washington-Wilkes on the field will be Cicero Lucas who as All-SEC at the University of Georgia.
