Kudos to the members of the North Wilkes Steering Committee (NWSC), of which the following are a part: Celeste Adams, Margie Bunch, Susannah Carter, Brooke Dawson, Margaret Fortson, Carolyn Gammon, Pat Grimaud, Eudora Huyck, Nobie Keener, Cissy Rogers, Jessie Shoemaker, Robin Turner and Gloria Ware.

Our fifth I'd Rather Be In Tignall Fall Festival was a total success and we felt like rock stars.

You have already read last week that the children's fashion show, pony rides, cake walk, bingo, hayrides, petting zoo, live music, cloggers, moonwalk/slide, striker putting green, candy corn contest, face painting, the spinning demonstration, and all that great food were real crowd pleasers.

Enough cannot be said about the oldtime photographs. Unlike the cake walk or bingo where you walked away with something tangible, as people left the lunchroom after viewing the old photos - some laughing, some a little teary-eyed - you just knew that they left with precious memories.

Sydney Tyler enjoyed cuddling a bunny from the petting zoo which was a big hit with the children. Laney Harris is holding a bunny in the background. As we walked on the school grounds, in the lunchroom and gym, we could not help but think somebody else walked here before us and it gave us comfort.

The song, "Yesterday When I Was Young," just kept running through your head. It should have been playing in the background.

Some comments overheard were: Females: "Can you believe I teased my hair that much?" "Were my legs really that skinny?" Males: "Look how much hair I had." "Would you look at that Elvis pompadour!" Both: "I'll bet you don't know who I am." "Uh . . . Uh. . . I knew you looked familiar."

It was a walk down memory lane when times were simpler, nostalgia at its best.

Remember the earlier comment about having a burning desire to volunteer as a helper of join the NWSC, it is no longer a wish but a reality. We need more members - especially MEN. We wish we could offer a sign-up bonus - maybe next year.

The cloggers from McCormick, S.C., made a colorful picture with their red and white costumes. The cloggers from McCormick, S.C., made a colorful picture with their red and white costumes. Also, as always, if you would like to make a direct donation you may do so by mailing it to the NWSC, 442 Bolton Road, Tignall, GA 30668.

Proceeds from this year's event, as well as prior years, will be used for various community projects and selected charities.
