Peggy West Oglesby
Funeral services for Peggy West Oglesby, 76, of Blackshear, were held Saturday, November 11, 2006, at Youmans Chapel Baptist Church, Blackshear. Interment was in Waters Cemetery. She died Thursday, November 9, at Baptist Village, Waycross.
Mrs. Oglesby was a lifelong resident of Pierce County. She was a homemaker and a member of the Blackshear Church of God and attended several Baptist churches with her children. She was the daughter of the late Earnest and Ethel Bennett King, and the widow of George W. Oglesby. During World War II, Mrs. Oglesby helped to build Liberty Ships in Brunswick and is registered by the National Parks Service in the Rosie the Riveter Memorial project.
Survivors include five sons, Buddy (JoAnn) Oglesby of St. Marys, Donnie (Angela) Oglesby, Nahunta, Wayne Oglesby, Blackshear, David (Donna) Oglesby, Waycross, and Fred (Lisa) Oglesby, Blackshear; six daughters, Mary (Stanley) Shuman, Hoboken, Martha (Jerry) Broyles, Clermont, Aline (Sam) Eason, Folkston, Bobbie Sue (Lloyd) Johnson, Washington, Dale (Chris) Sikes of Waynesville, and Peggy (Timothy) King, Blackshear; 30 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 36 greatgreat grandchildren; three sisters, Caroline Allbritton, Waycross, Ann Chancellor, Patterson, and May Raulerson, Jackson, Fla.; four brothers, Claude King, Louisiana, Phillip King, Patterson, Steve King and Larry King, Alabama.
