Barbers speak to Kiwanians

2006-11-16 / Personalities

Katherine and Bradley Barber were the guest speakers at the regular meeting of the Washington Kiwanis Club on Tuesday, November 14. The Barbers explained "The National Farm to School Program" which was established in 2000 by the Center for Food and Justice, Occidental College, and the Community Food Security Coalition. The purposes of the program are to provide healthy meals in school cafeterias, improve student nutrition, provide health, nutrition, and education opportunities to children, and support local farmers. Through this program, schools could buy and feature locally grown farm fresh foods thus building a curriculum highlighting agriculture and teaching children the benefits of nutrition for a healthy lifestyle. Al Zima (left) was program host for the day.
