Auditions for the Washington Little Theater Company's spring production of the musical "Gypsy" will be held on Tuesday, December 12, and Thursday, December 14, from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. The auditions will be held at The Playhouse on North Alexander Avenue.

"Gypsy" is a well-known musical with book by Arthur Laurents; lyrics by Stephen Sondheim; and music by Jule Styne.

Cherished for generations, "Gypsy" is the tale of vaudeville's decline and of a domineering stage mother's inadvertent creation of a lady-like burlesque stripper. ("There will be no nudity or vulgarity in this performance," says drama director Sue Davidson.)

Two of the well-known songs in the musical are "Let Me Entertain You" and "Everything's Coming Up Roses."

There are potential parts available for 36 actors and actresses ranging in age from five years old to 50 years old. All seriously interested persons are encouraged to attend the auditions.

"This is a musical, so please bring your music with you and be prepared to sing," says music director Debbie McLeod.

There will be a piano for accompaniment or persons auditioning may bring their own background tape and recorder. Performances will be March 30, 31, and April 1, 6 and 7, 2007.

The two directors are both veterans of the Little Theater stage and are committed to making this musi- cal a high quality show. Questions may be directed to McLeod at 706- 678-1165; or Davidson at 706-678- 4939.

The program is supported in part by the Grassroots Program of the Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriation of the Georgia General Assembly and in partnership with the Wilkes County Community Partnership.
