Thanks to Hopkins Funeral Home and staff for having their annual holiday memorial program in memory of those deceased. Among those attending from our area were Margaret Edwards and son Clinton; Nell Shedd and Shirley Dunn. It was held in the fellowship hall of the First Baptist Church, Washington, Sunday afternoon, December 3. Don't forget this Saturday evening, December 9, at 6 p.m., the Philomath Church Preservation Association will sponsor a low country boil to benefit their restoration project. There is much needed work on restoring the historic Presbyterian Church there on Highway 22 between Lexington and Highway 22 and 44 crossing Greensboro Road. Advance tickets only will be sold at a cost of $20 each. This may sound like too much but think of it as a love offering, good food, and fellowship. It will be a time to learn more about their efforts in trying to keep their surroundings and neighborhood in good condition. Tickets may be bought at Sherrer's Store in Rayle of by calling John Buckman at 706- 274-3228. The event will be held at the Buckman Barn behind their two-story white house. We are glad to learn that Miss Emily Rorie, a granddaughter if the late George and Eva Tucker Nunn of Phillips Mill, has returned to Rayle at Echols Personal Care Home after several weeks in an
Augusta hospital. Among her visitors in August were her aunt Mildred (Mrs. Dan) McAvoy and some of her family. Mrs. McAvoy had a good report from her doctor that day. Lee Nash Maxwell of Atlanta spent the weekend with his dad, Morrison Maxwell, and sister, Mary Jane, and nephew Tyler. They carried Morrison out for lunch Sunday to celebrate Morrison's 76th birthday Wednesday, December 6, and visited with Priscilla Maxwell in the swing bed at Wills Memorial Hospital. Lee will be back to take his mother back to her hip surgeon in Athens this Friday, December 8. She also has an appointment Friday with her heart doctor. Your prayers, visits, cards, phone calls, flowers, and every act of kindness are greatly appreciated. Among visitors this week were first cousins Charles Sherrer and his wife Linda of Loganville. Charles underwent a planned hip replacement surgery at Emory Hospital in Atlanta a few days before my surprise broken hip and surgery in Athens. Nurses have been wonderful. Remember, God loves you. His phone line is always open.
