Quarterly blood drive set here for next Thursday, August 17

The quarterly blood drive sponsored by the Wills Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Shepeard Blood Center will be held Thursday, August 17.

Because of renovations to the Edward B. Pope Community Center where the blood drive is usually held, the drive will be conducted in the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church at the corner of Spring and Liberty streets.

Time for the drive is from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m. The goal is for 55 units of blood.

Members of the Wills Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will greet donors, serve refreshments, and hand them the T-shirt they will earn by donating blood.

The blood drive has been a 27year project for the Auxiliary, as they have done their part to assure a strong, safe, cost effective blood supply for the community.

"Please take one hour of your time to help save the lives of our local patients by donating a unit of blood," says Linda Walker of the Shepeard Community Blood Center.

"Every time you donate a unit of blood you help to save the lives of three local patients," Walker continued.

Shepeard Community Blood Center is the only supplier of blood to Wills Memorial Hospital, University Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, Doctors Hospital, including the Burn Center, McDuffie Medical Center, and other hospitals in the CSRA.

Anyone who is 17 years old and weighs 110 lbs. or more and who is in good health can be a blood donor.

Wilkes County held the first community blood drive ever held by the Shepeard Community Blood Center.
