Movie maker looking for costumed extras; 'Deception' auditions Friday eve at library The dozens of WashingtonWilkes folks who've portrayed historic characters at historic events now have a chance to act for a wider audience. The maker of the film "Deception" is looking for extras in 1850 period costume to work over the next few days, then again in the spring. Dozens of experienced historic extras are expected for open auditions to be held Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Mary Willis Library. "It's not for pay," said Vianlix Mestey-Schneider, of Mestey Films Productions, "just for fun - but what an experience!" The movie production company will be filming next week at Holly Court, Phil and Margaret Rothman's bed-and-breakfast inn on South Alexander Avenue. Vianlix says that the crew and actors will return in the spring to complete filming. Washington and Wilkes County has a built-in cast of authentically costumed extras, veterans of "Postmarked Wilkes County," the only outdoor production in Georgia, and of living history exhibits at Callaway Plantation, the Robert Toombs House, and both the Spring and Christmas Tour of Homes. The combination of extras with their own authentic costumes, and historic homes and sites, make Washington an ideal place to film a historic drama, Vianlix said. She says she fell in love with Washington from her first look on the Holly Court Inn web site. "It was just overwhelming how beautiful Washington is, and how friendly the people are. They've done everything for us to make this possible."
The auditions at the Mary Willis Library will open at 6 p.m. Friday evening. "Please come in costume," Vianlix said. "We are looking for ladies in 'Southern belle' costume and men in Southern civilian attire, and everyone is welcome."
