Phillips Mill Baptist Church welcomes Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Byrd as new members. Margaret Edwards enjoyed attending homecoming Sunday, August 6, with her sister Geraldine and her husband, Franklin Jones, at Calvary Baptist Church in Thomson. Congratulations and best wishes to Joyce Mines (Mrs. Marion) West, Sunday School Director at Phillips Mill, upon her retirement July 31 as Wilkes County Tax Assessor for 30 years. Among visitors this summer of Mrs. Mary Nell Taylor Denard besides her son Cloyd and his wife Brenda of Augusta, neighbors and pastor Robert Rayner, were several nephews, including Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Edwards of Louisville, Ky.; Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Neely and their nine children, eight girls, and finally a boy, who live in Andrews, N.C.; and she has been blessed with another great-grandson, Myles Taylor Denard. He has two brothers. Virginia Stevens Hunter underwent surgery recently. There were signs of cancer. Please remember her in your prayers as she starts taking treatments. She is in good spirits and appreciates prayers very much. Remember, God loves you and is waiting to hear from you. His line is never too busy. Be ready to listen and seek his advice.
