Lula Mae Maddox Funeral services for Lula Mae "Jitterbug" Maddox, 65, of Favor Avenue, Washington, were held Sunday, August 6, 2006, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Washington, with Rev. Charles Belton, pastor, and Rev. Robert Crawford officiating. Interment was in City West Cemetery. She died Wednesday, August 2, at Wills Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Maddox was a native of Wilkes County and was the daughter of the late Clarence Heard and Alberta Long She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and was affectionately known as "Jitterbug." Survivors include four children, Dwayne Carter, Alberta Welborn, George Maddox Jr., all of Washington, and Rossie Carter Neubaum of Augusta; eight siblings, Kay Frances Cobb, Annie Gresham, Patricia Long, and Robert Long, all of Washington, Christine Zellars, and Silas Carter of Athens, Paul Carter of Atlanta, and Mami Heard of Washington, D.C.; and a grandchild, Amanda Maddox.
Davenport-McLendon Mortuary of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
