WCHS teachers honored for high test score increases

During preplanning week, Washington Wilkes Comprehensive High School was recognized for achievement in two areas of the Georgia High School Graduation Test (GHSGT). Results of testing in math and science put local students in the upper level of students statewide and plaques were awarded to the school accordingly.
On Monday, July 31, all employees of the Wilkes County School System met for breakfast to begin work for the 2006-07 school year. After welcoming back all staff members, Superintendent Joyce Williams made presentations to specific schools based on progress/accomplishments that were made last school year. She presented a plaque to WW
WCHS honoring the Science Department based on the recognition by the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders (GAEL) indicating that students at the school had shown a 23.3% increase in scores over the previous year on the science part of the GHSGT. This improvement placed them in the topten most improved in the state in this area.

W-WCHS also received recognition for the achievement of its 200506 eleventh graders on the enhanced math questions of the GHSGT. A higher percentage of those students at W-WCHS, in all subgroups (all students, Black students, White students and economically disadvantaged students), passed that part when compared with students of schools in the surrounding area.
