Maria Walker receives Chancellor's Council Scholarship at Texas Tech

Maria Burgess Walker, daughter of Martin and Janet Burgess, received the Texas Tech University Chancellor's Council Scholarship for the academic year 2006-2007.

The office of Women's Studies distributes the scholarship to the graduate student with significant contributions to issues relevant to women, gender and diversity. Mrs. Walker was selected as a result of her work contributing to the understanding of women's lives through her research, teaching and mentoring.

She received the scholarship at the 22nd Annual All University Conference on the Advancement of Women

in Higher Education held at Texas Tech University. In attendance for the presentation were her husband, Joel Walker, and sister, Molly Burgess of Watkinsville.

Mrs. Walker is currently researching the experiences of young adult women leaders at the University. She is a Ph. D. student in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Texas Tech University. She was recognized with an additional scholarship for her work and progress within the department. Awarding of the scholarship will take place during the Fall 2006 academic term.
