Ellen Barnes and Lemuel Leroy united in marriage on July 8

Mr. and Mrs. Lemuel Robert LeRoy
Ellen Faires Barnes and Lemuel Robert LeRoy of Charlotte, N.C., exchanged wedding vows in an impressive double-ring ceremony Saturday, July 8, at two o'clock in the afternoon at Carmel Baptist Church in Charlotte. Dr. Clay Barnes of Charlotte, father of the bride, and Rev. Albert W. Huyck of Tignall, stepfather of the bridegroom, officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Clay Barnes of Charlotte.

The bridegroom is the son of Rev. and Mrs. Albert W. Huyck of Tignall and the late Robert (Bob) LeRoy.

The sanctuary held Boston ferns, arch and tree candelabra, and two large floral arrangements of blue and white hydrangeas, light pink and white roses and light and dark blue delphinium. Brass hurricane candelabra with ivory tulle graced the center aisle. The floral arrangement to the right was placed in loving memory of the bridegroom's father and the one to the left was in loving memory of the couple's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Barnes, Mrs. Jeanne Faires, Mr. and Mrs. E.R. LeRoy and Mr. and Mrs. Reece Glenn.

Candles were lit by groomsmen, Dr. Ross Cameron of Leeds, UK, brother-in-law of the bride; Rev. Greg King of Charlotte and Michael Moore of Washington.

Musicians included Mrs. Neron Hinton of Atlanta, pianist; Bill Harkins of Charlotte, guitarist; Michael Morris of Greenville, S.C., cousin of the bride, flutist; and Calvin Tsang of Charlotte, violinist; also, John Fortson of Charlotte, and Dr. Edmund LeRoy of Maitland, Fla, cousins of the bridegroom, Mrs. Robert Hudson and Calvin James of Charlotte, vocalists.

The prelude of classical music presented by the pianist, violinist and flutist included "Traumerei," "Adagio from the Spring Sonata, Opus 24," "Movement 1 from Sonata No. 5," "Vocalise Opus 24, No. 14," "Largo," "Adagio from Sonata in D Minor," and "Cantabile." "Canon in D" was presented during the seating of the mothers and the processionals were "For the Beauty of the Earth and Psalm 19." "Ode to Joy" was the recessional.

Mrs. Hudson sang "How Beautiful" prior to the mothers' seating and Dr. LeRoy offered "The Wedding Song" after their seating. Following the scripture reading by Jen Curran of Charlotte, the congregation sang "Be Thou My Vision." Mr. James and Mrs. Hudson sang "This Day" as a part of the Ceremony of Marriage and during the lighting of the Unity Candle, Mr. Fortson sang "The Wedding Hymn".

Elizabeth Barnes of Leeds, UK, was her sister's matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Jonathan Bachman and Mrs. Todd Neal of Charlotte, N.C. They wore twilight blue taffeta V-neck halter gowns each accented with a periwinkle blue ribbon sash. The matron of honor carried white roses encircling dark blue delphinium and the bridesmaids carried white roses around light blue delphinium.

Flower girl, Georgia Kibler of Charlotte, wore an ivory satin bodice and organza floor-length skirt with a satin periwinkle sash and bow and carried a blue hydrangea, white rose and dark blue delphinium bouquet.

The bride was radiant in her Aline ivory satin with re-embroidered

lace gown fashioned with a scooped halter neckline, crystal beading and sequins and chapel-length train.

Delicate satin trimmed her ivory fingertip layered veil that was her "something borrowed" from her bridesmaid, Mrs. Neal.

She carried a bouquet of white roses sprigged with dark blue delphinium and accented with periwinkle ribbon and trailing ivy.

For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Barnes chose a navy two-piece ensemble. The satin top featured a dropped waistline and asymmetrically shirred wrapped bodice with a portrait collar and fell over a crepe A-line floor-length skirt. She carried a blue hydrangea.

Mrs. Huyck, the bridegroom's mother, wore a periwinkle floorlength two-piece suit of gazar silk with rhinestone buttons and matching accessories. She carried a white hydrangea.

At the close of the ceremony, the couple and their parents greeted guests in the Gathering Space of the church.

Following a wedding trip to the Northern California coast, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy are making their home in Charlotte where he is Associate Pastor of Worship at Carmel Baptist Church and she is a Special Education Teacher in Union County, N.C.
