Wilkes Sunday School Union meets at White Rock Baptist The Wilkes County Sunday School Union convened with the White Rock Baptist Church, Rayle, where Rev. G.L. Avery served as host pastor and Willie Hampton as host superintendent. The session was opened by the president, Jamie Johnson. The devotional service was led by Joe L. Towns and Johnny Bankston. The sermon was preached by Rev. Lance Pitts, titled "Let's Stay Together." Rev. Pitts led the benediction. The Saturday session was opened by President Johnson and the devotional service was led by Charles Morgan and Larry Smith. James Avery taught the Bible lesson and Merry Norman was youth teacher. During the business session it was stated that the Union's anniversary will be celebrated October 1 at Springfield Baptist Church. Team A, consisting of Mars Tabernacle, New Ford, and Twin Oak, won the Bible Bowl. The doctrinal sermon was preached by Rev. H.M. Easley and titled "Jesus Said It." President Johnson opened the evening youth session. The devotional service was led by Thomas Booker and Tevin Gresham. Therica Cullars served as youth president and Jameka Gresham as youth secretary. The welcome address was given by Louise Gresham. Singing was by the Union Youth Choir. The inspirational address was presented by Jasmine Dillard. Rev. G.L. Avery led the benediction. The Sunday session was opened by the president and the devotional service was led by Enoch Booker Jr. and Johnny Bankston. Willie Hampton presided as Sunday School Superintendent with a total of 58 Singing was by the congregation and the inspirational address was by Eddie Finnell, titled "Responsibility of Church Membership." The missionary sermon was preached by Rev. Edward Anderson, titled "I Must Move to the Next Higher Level." Singing was by the congregation. Bobbie Hill gave hospitality remarks and Rev. Anderson pronounced the benediction. The next Sunday School Union will convene with the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on October 27-29.
Officers of the Union in addition to the president are : Larry Smith, vice-president; Robin Booker, secretary; Melvene Binns, assistant secretary; and Willie Jenkins, treasurer.
