SUMMER MOVIE REVIEW
World Trade Center
By Daniel Newsome
This is the true story of Port Authority officers Will Jimeno and John McLoughlin. These brave men rushed into the burning trade center on September 11th of five years ago to save people trapped in the building and became trapped themselves. This is a film about bravery, sacrifice and men rising to their highest level in a time of sheer evil.
McLoughlin, played by Nicolas Cage is a 20 year sergeant who leads his officers into the building. He is a family man and one who helped design disaster plans for the towers. Will Jimeno, played by Michael Pena, is a young rookie cop. He is happily married with a daughter named Briana, and another on the way. We learn more about both officers as we see them in flashbacks while they are waiting and hoping to be rescued.
This film was not what I expected it to be. I thought that it was going to be a capitalization on the tragedy of September 11th, but it wasn't. The movie was very respectful and accurate. Oliver Stone did a wonderful job in keeping the movie real. The scenes of the police officers arriving at the building are some of the most graphic and disturbing I have ever seen and the fact that what they are seeing actually happened really hits home. It is this feeling of realness that makes the movie so effective. Viewers are given a front row seat to see the horror of 9/11. The emotional experience of the movie is quite turbulent. You can go to this movie expecting to laugh, cry and be horrified. It is a movie that every American should see.

MPAA Rating: PG-13 for intense and emotional content, some disturbing images and language. played by Denzel Washington, quickly realizes that he is dealing with much more than the average thief. Arthur Case, chairman of the bank, played by Christopher Plummer, then takes matters into his own hands by hiring a special negotiator, Madeline White, played by Jodie Foster, to protect his personal interests. These interests are kept from us, as is the goal of the thieves inside the bank. It is a robbery movie much like a game of chess. The rest of the movie is played out in this fashion. White attempts to reason with Dalton, while Dalton is confusing both her and Frazier. A series of tricks and highly planned games brings us to the end of the movie from which we see why this film is called Inside Man. That is all I will say. I do not want to ruin it for anyone. I will say that we don't know what anyone is after until the very end. It is a movie that needs to be watched at least twice in order to catch everything that goes on.

Inside Man is a unique robbery film in that it is not about what they steal but why and how they steal it.
Make sure and rent this in town at Movie Gallery on E. Robert Toombs.
MPAA Rating: R for language and some violent images.
