Over 200 attend Fall Fashion Show to benefit Wills Memorial

Kay Nelms, MC, shows the "Stepping Out in Style" cake made by Kermit Hocutt for the Fall Fashion Show.
"Stepping Out in Style" was the theme of the Fall Fashion Show and Luncheon Benefit hosted by the Wills Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Saturday, August 12, at the Veteran of Foreign Wars Building.

The event was well attended with over 200 enjoying the show.

From the moment guests "stepped" into the building they knew they were in for a special treat. Rosemary Hopkins, chairman of the decorations, and her helpers had transformed the room into a festive and beautiful scene. In keeping with the theme, shoes abounded in every area. Shoes of every color and style topped white columns that centered tables and other shoes were "stepping" down the tables. Shoe punch outs and curlycues were added as accents. Festive orange cloths covered the tables and places were marked with bright yellow mats and lime green napkins.

The backdrop for the stage was formed with white lattice with decorative handbags attached. Massive ferns flanked the lattice. Another feature was a picture of an adorable dressed up little girl and this was highlighted with black and white feather boas.

To the left of the stage a two-tiered white cake, made and decorated by Kermit Hocutt, featured shoes in various styles and colors. An exquisite hand-blown glass high heeled slipper topped the cake.

Also featured on the stage were a table, made by Bill Sleighter, and the designer bag by Darlene Wiles, both to be raffled during the event. Also featured were door prizes given by 25 local and nearby merchants.

The festivities began with a welcome by Bobbie Ann Griffin, WMH Auxiliary president, and Marvin Goldman, WMH CEO. Jim Burton offered the blessing for the luncheon. Door prize drawings were enjoyed during the meal.

A luncheon of chicken salad, fresh fruits, sweet breads, hard-boiled eggs, and dessert of marble cake was enjoyed. The 4-H Club assisted the Auxiliary in serving.

Kay Nelms was mistress of ceremonies for the Parade of Fashions. More than 42 models participated in showing the styles from Boot Rack of Athens, Ginger of Greensboro, McFabulous of Thomson, Bee Southern, Scarborough's and Doncaster, all of Washington.

Before leaving at the close of the show, guests were invited to browse and shop in The Marketplace that featured items from Arbonne, Avon, Bee Southern, Boot Rack, Creative Memories, Fievet's Pharmacy, Ginger, Laura and Bill Sleighter, Mary Kay and Scarborough's.

The Auxiliary Committee Members for the 2006 Fall Fashion Show were Lefreda Adair, Sandy Burton, Bobbie Ann Griffin, Amy Johnston, Oleta McAvoy, Kay Nelms, Margaret Norris and Cathy Stackhouse.

All events staged by the WMH Auxiliary are to benefit Wills Memorial Hospital.

The next event for the Auxiliary will be a Wine and Cheese Tasting at the home of Sandy Burton on September 7 from 4-6 p.m. Please call Mrs. Burton at 706-678-2333 if interested in attending or learning more about becoming an Auxiliary member.
