Bailey, Latimer descendants gather for reunion August 5

Descendants of Simon Bailey of Metasville and John Peace Latimer of Oglethorpe County gathered for a family reunion in Washington at the Fitzpatrick Hotel on Saturday, August 5.

The reunion was held in conjunction with the celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the founding of Rehoboth Baptist Church in Metasville where most of the Bailey and many of the Latimer ancestors attended church.

Clark Henry Latimer, brother of Sarah Frances "Fannie" Latimer Wynne and Luther "Luke" Wesley Latimer, was the first person buried in the Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery.

Approximately 60 descendants from eight different states attended the reunion on Saturday and many spent the afternoon touring family cemeteries and Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery. Also, many attended Rehoboth Baptist Church services on Sunday.

Descendants attending the BaileyLatimer Reunion from the Simeon "Sim" Hester Bailey family were Donny Bailey Seagraves and Phillip Seagraves of Winterville; Leanne Bailey Benson, Ken Benson, Mary "Faye" Bailey and Chelsey Guinn of Cleveland, Tenn.; Peggy Bailey Hancock of Athens; Beverly Wallischeck and John Wallischeck of Ellijay; Michael "Mike" David Bailey and Mary Bailey of Clio, S.C.; Billie Bryan Aldridge of Woodstock; Betty Bryan Sorrow and H.M. "Bill" Sorrow of Nicholson; and Katie Lou Bryan Graham of Jacksonville, Fla.

Attending from the family of Nathaniel "Nat" Leland Bailey were William David Bryant and Joan Pope Bryant of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Jerre Sue Bailey Finley and Charlie Finley of Concord, N.C.; Bill Dean Bailey of Attalla, Ala.; and Frank Bailey of Gadsden, Ala.

Present from the Edward "Ed" Walter Bailey family were William "Bill" Edward Bailey and Kathryn Best Bailey of Lawrenceville; William Edward "Ed" Bailey Jr. and Ann Teague Bailey of Plano, Tex.; Kay Bailey Ludwig and Russell Ludwig of Buford.

Attending from the Oscar Mack Lane Bailey and Mary Ida Jane Latimer Bailey, daughter of Clark Henry Latimer, family were Nancy Campbell Robertson and Gerald Robertson of Oneonta, Ala.; Gwendolyn Brown Usry of Gadsden, Ala.; Jerry Lynn Usry of Evans; Robert "Bob" T.
