Greensboro Highway crash claims two lives
A Pendergrass, Ga. couple were killed late Tuesday night at the dangerous intersection of Highways 44 and 22, just over the line in Taliaferro County, when their semi ran the stop sign and crashed into the loaded trailer of a northbound semi. Washington-Wilkes EMS and firefighters responded, but the two were declared dead at the scene, thrown 100 yards beyond the wreckage. The driver of the other truck, from Lower Peachtree, Ala., was uninjured. Wilkes EMS Director Blake Thompson said there have been a dozen deaths at the intersection in the past 15 years.
