Community leaders needed to meet tonight at 6:30

What does a prospective employer see when he comes to Wilkes County? And what changes can community leaders make to bring more jobs here?

To answer those questions, the Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring this evening a community-wide meeting focusing on community and leadership development.

"We need all community leaders to attend tonight," said Chamber executive director Donna Hardy. "We have a big problem in our community right now, and we need help from everyone to correct the problem if we're going to attract more jobs to Wilkes County."

Economic development experts from both state agencies and private sources will be giving feedback on what Wilkes County needs to do to bring more jobs here. "They'll be showing us what a prospective employer sees when they come to look at Wilkes County, and it may not be a pretty picture," she said, "but we need our community leaders to come with open minds, ready to make the changes we need to bring industry here."

The meeting will be held tonight, August 24, at the WashingtonWilkes Senior Center, 108 Marshall St., at 6:30 p.m. Space is limited to 125, and refreshments will be served. Reserve your space by calling the Chamber at 706-678-2013.
