Parent member sought for council; W-WMS Corner clubs, sports getting active again
The School Council has been accepting nominations for a parent member. The last day for nominations is August 30th. Elections will take place in the lobby of W-WMS on Tuesday, September 5, from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. You must be present to vote. All parents and guardians of current students at Washington-Wilkes Middle School are eligible to nominate and vote for the parent council member. The Tiger Corner would like to introduce this year's staff: Anna Attwood, Hayley Colvard, Cayla Gilland, Lauren Harrison, Dalton Howard, Rob Lovvorn, Emily McNure, Ansley Newsome, Dixie Lee Trimm, and Christian West-Howard. These students are Teresa Eason's eighth grade ELT class. The class will write the weekly Tiger Corner article as well as put out the Tiger Paw, the middle school newspaper. Math, science, and special education teachers are participating in InterMath geometry. This class that is being taught through the University of Georgia and is being funded by a grant that was awarded for professional development in the areas of math and science. Now that school has started the clubs are becoming active again. 4-H and Beta Club sign ups are in progress. Student Council selections will be made soon. FFA is open to interested seventhand eighthgrade students. Participating in a club is a great way for students to be active in their school and community.
Please take time to support the middle school students as they have several athletic events coming up. The girls softball team will play Buford here on August 24 at 5 p.m... The cross country team will have a home meet August 30 at 4 p.m.. The middle school cheerleaders will cheer the Tigers on this Friday night at the jamboree and the middle school football team will participate in a jamboree today at 5 p.m. in Elberton.
