We welcome Russell and Carrie Johnson and daughters, Emilie and Erica, to the Tyrone community. They recently purchased the Phillips Mill Baptist Church pastorium on the Greensboro Road. Russ grew up at Phillips Mill, son of William and Lindia Johnson, and grandson of Rachel Callaway Johnson and the late M.L. "Jack" Johnson, all of Phillips Mill and Quaker Springs Rd. The pastorium had been vacant for some time. Money received from the sale will be saved for a future pastorium when needed. William and Lindia Johnson joined their daughter Tami and her husband, Greg Chalker, and their children, Mallory and Davis, of Moseley, Va., in Myrtle Beach, S.C., for a vacation recently. Lee Maxwell of Atlanta spent several days recently with his family, Morrison and Priscilla Maxwell, sister, Mary Jane Scarborough, and nephew, Tyler, and carried Priscilla to her heart doctor in Athens. Mrs. Gussie McAvoy joined her sister-in-law, Mrs. Dell James, one day recently for an enjoyable visit with longtime friend Mrs. Miriam Poss Durham. They enjoyed going to school many years ago at Courtground together. We want to wish Mrs. Mary Nell Taylor Denard and Mrs. Henrietta Rice Lunceford, both of Phillips Mill, a happy birthday Saturday, August 26. Churches of the Georgia Baptist Association, don't forget the Christmas in August party at the Mission Center in Washington Saturday morning, August 26. Items collected for the Georgia Baptist Children's Home will be put together. Young people are encouraged to attend and take part. Hopefully, some from the Children's Home will get to come. You may call the Mission Center for more details - 706-678-7381. Among recent visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Dan McAvoy and Jerry McAvoy have been Jimmy and Dorothy Ann Saxon, their daughters, Donna and Denise, Warren and Lois Nunn, Henry and Faye McAvoy, Warren and Ann Newsome, and Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Hopper, friends of the Saxons from Clayton. Don't forget that the Labor Day Fair in Crawfordville is Monday, September 4, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The parade this year will be at 2 p.m. instead of noon. T-shirts are for sale and will be available that day. Sincere sympathy is extended to the Wallace Wheatley family and to others who have lost loved ones. Remember, God loves you and is always ready to listen when others are too busy.
