RAYLE NEWS The homecoming at Rock United Methodist Church Sunday was well attended. Rev. Gary Dean preached a powerful message to the people who had come to enjoy the day. The congregational singing of oldtime hymns with Betty Berry at the piano was wonderful. Rev. Dean's wife and two sons were there with him. There was an abundance of good food for everyone to enjoy and good fellowship. Bonnie Boatwright, Kay Berry, and Ruby Arnold enjoyed the service, fellowship, and dinner at Rock United Methodist Church Sunday. Brooke Berry, Kaitlyn and Bryson, and Trey Berry joined them there for lunch. There were many people there whom we enjoyed getting to see. Katie Goolsby of Watkinsville, Ruth Hopkins and her daughter, Peggy Cason of Augusta, Mrs. Hawn of Augusta, who used to work at Belks in Washington, Sybil Vaughn, Charles Blakey and Amelia Wheatley of Metasville, Donnie and Kris Berry, Dennis and Florence Chafin, Caylor and Cristan, Hannah Mullett, David and Chris Armour and family, Marvin and Blanche Armour, Tim Miller, Ann Williamson, Jessie and Nancy Williamson, and many other people whose names I didn't get were there to celebrate the homecoming. Alyssa Stewart started classes Monday at Augusta State University. Mrs. Annie Blanche Vaughn spent the weekend of last week in Marietta with Malvin and Kay Vaughn. Joining them there were Mike and Eva Schug and Sophie, Davie, Kelli and Oliver, Daniel Vaughn and Jill Vaughn. Visiting this past weekend with Annie Blanche were Jean McDonald, Penny Vaughn, and Tucker and Brenda Vaughn. Avery Hall spent the day Saturday with Clyde and Sandy Whittington. Greg and Angela Armour, Samantha, Cody and Hunter, Will Callaway, Scott and Sissy Smith, J.T. and Abby, and Richard and Lou Heard and Mattie enjoyed Sunday with Buck and Linda Echols. Hannah Mullett spent Saturday night with Caylor and Cristan Chafin. Lucy Mullett visited Dennis and Florence Chafin and family Saturday and again Sunday. Dorothy Callaway remains in MCG in Augusta at this writing. She has better days and bad days. Family members have been going daily to be with her and some have been staying at night. Peggy Echols accompanied Doris Smathers for her doctor's appointment in Athens one day and afterwards they enjoyed eating at China Starr. Clyde and Sandy Whittington and Fred Weidner of Lexington spent Sunday afternoon in Crawford will Neil and Kim Frankel, Zachery and Kyle. George Wideman has been at MCG in Augusta for the past two weeks since his heart attack and was expected to get to come home Monday. They appreciate the prayers, calls, and visits. He received flowers from Newtown Baptist Church. Susan Amason came down from Flowery Branch to spend the weekend with her brother, Billy Amason. Bonnie Boatwright went to Thomson Tuesday morning to her doctor and got a good report. She enjoyed browsing around town and eating at Michaels. Jeff Stevens, brother of Florence Chafin, and her nephew, Shawn O'Kelly, have returned to the States from Iraq. Tuesday afternoon, Bonnie Boatwright joined J.W. and Kathleen Canup and Fran Thaxton in Lexington to go over to Elberton to Wendy's where they enjoyed playing bingo. They enjoy meeting new friends. Charlie and Linda Arnold of Athens, Bobby and Sandra Arnold of Winterville, and Ann Wideman were visitors of Ralph and Elizabeth Smith during the week. J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright went to Athens Wednesday for J.W. to sign for health care at the VA outpatient clinic which will open in October. Afterwards they went out to eat at Chiles. Our prayers are with Evelyn Pierce of Crawfordville who is in Wills Memorial Hospital in Washington. She is the grandmother of Florence Chafin. David and Margie Randall joined other members of the Heritage Club for a trip to Greenville, S.C., Saturday, August 12. They enjoyed a gourmet lunch at Larkin on the River at the Peace Center for the Performing Arts. Following lunch they strolled through the park and walked across Liberty Bridge over the Reedy River enjoying views of the falls and the beautifully landscaped park. They then attended the matinee performance of "Mama Mia." Sudie Kennedy enjoyed a visit with Ruie Belle Davis Wednesday. Our deepest heartfelt sympathy to the family of Azalee Bridges Johnson who passed away week before last. She was a nice Christian lady who was always helping people. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. Prayers are continuing for Dorothy Callaway, Seba Williamson, Pete Poss, Gary Rogers, Stephanie Chapman, Bobby Parton, Helen Cowart, George Wideman, Kathryn Padgett, Jonathan Grier, and Ellie Frey. J.W. Boatwright visited Mrs. Wilda Boatwright Friday afternoon.
Bonnie Boatwright visited Ruth Flyht Sunday afternoon. Ruby Arnold visited Sallie Mae Arnold in the Flatwoods community during the week. Fred Corbett has enjoyed having these visitors over the past week: Dan and Beverly Corbett, Shawn Turner, Paul and Mary Lee Wendt, Ruth Flynt, Charles and Nina Boatwright, Tom Hardy, and J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright. Ruby Arnold, Rhonda Owen, and Sallie Collins went to Rossman, N.C., Thursday to spend the day with Mary Grace Owen. They went to the plant where Mary Grace works and met her boss and were taken on a tour of the plant. Mary Grace treated them out to dinner in honor of Rhonda's birthday. Birthday wishes go out to Ruby Booth on August 17; Rhonda Owen, 20; and Chuck Berry, 24. Bonnie Boatwright visited Kay Berry and Trey, and Kaitlyn Porter who was there with them Saturday. Bonnie visited them again on Sunday afternoon to get to play with Bryson.
