I do hope all of you had a nice week. It was hot to me most of the week. It's trying to rain, but seems to be more wind than rain. Here are the latest items from the ones who were home Sunday evening. My week consisted of trips to Washington, Lincoln, Thomson, and Augusta. G.B. and I had dinner with my folks in Lincoln County Sunday. We were joined by Garnett Wallace and Mr. and Mrs. Richard M. Goff of McCormick, S.C. We discussed school news, work news, church news, and also the sick. Mt. Zion United Methodist Church is having a singing tonight. I'm sure it went well. Russell Goldman of Doraville spent Sunday with Mrs. Sara Huff. Sunday afternoon Sara attended a shower for her granddaughter, Cassie Goldman in Athens. Visitors of Miss Grace Dunaway this week were Mrs. Bonnie Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Dunaway, Mrs. Debbie Lindsey, Karin Lindsey, Sara Huff, and Billy Dunnaway. Rev. and Mrs. Jim Newsome returned home to Vero Beach, Fla., after spending several weeks with his mother, Mrs. Jenelle Newsome. They all visited Mr. and Mrs. Jamie Newsome and Anna several times in Martinez. The Jamie Newsomes also visited in Washington. We are sorry to hear that Billy Glenn is in the hospital. We hope and pray he gets well soon. Stephanie Haynes, Chip and Skyla, visited Mr. and Mrs. Richard Phillips this week. The Phillipses enjoyed revival at Victory Baptist Church several nights last week. Happy birthday to Coty Johnson, Joni Bruce, Sheldon Davis, and a belated one to Mary Ruff (75), Amanda Charping, and Wade Palmer. Our prayer concerns include Anneice Butler, Sanders and Elizabeth Dallis, Linda Albea, J.C. Boutwell, George Wideman, Sara Lynn Hyatt, Henry N. Wallace, Priscilla Maxwell, Billy Glenn, Florence Ingram, Lillie Crawford, Ed Burdette, Lois South, Ethel Harris, Roberta Roper, the Wallace Wheatley family, Charles Blakey, Evans Davis, Hal Johnson, Rev. Thompson Holloman, Gary Rogers, Barry Bailey, Beth Keener, the Nolan Arrowood family, Margie Hopkins, Mamie Neal Reed, Claire Nelson, Peggy Callaway, Anna Ray, Annette Neal, Billy Niemann, Mary Dunford, Cindy Russell, Christy Kelly, Charles Bradford, Stephanie Chapman, Gary Mansfield, and Henrietta Leard. Miss Betty Moore and Tiffany Rogers visited Mrs. Barbara Adams Sunday. Betty and Barbara visited Mr. and Mrs. Bill Steed during the week. Mrs. Florence Ingram is a little better so don't forget to pray for her. Also, Grace Dunnaway could use our prayers. Lois Gay is better. Ebenezer Baptist Church had a great crowd Sunday. It was good to see more back in church. Rev. Huyck's message was on "The Deadly Danger of Drifting" (or backsliding as I call it). Mr. and Mrs. G.T. Hall placed a huge and beautiful fern in the sanctuary. There is a trip planned to the zoo in Columbia, S.C., Saturday, August 26. Bring money for tickets and a picnic lunch with you. The group will leave the church at 8 a.m. Supper will be enjoyed at a nice restaurant, so bring money for that too. I'd like to mention that my friend, Barbara Reese LeRoy, called and invited us to the Reese family singing Saturday at the First Assembly of God Church in Lincolnton. Come and you will get a blessing. The entire family has talent - brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, etc. They do this once a year and if you have never been, then go. Hope to see you there. Be sure to contribute to the Cancer Relief Fund that aids people with cancer with gas or some other means (Faith In Action helps in a different way) from Wilkes County.
