Along with the card was a copy of a tonsillectomy bill her parents received when Madeline (Heard) had her tonsils out in May 1952. Her doctor was Dr. A.W. Simpson Jr. The total bill was $73.50. The operating room fee was $17.50, oxygen was $5.50, and the hospital
room was $14.00. She was in the hospital for two days with this surgery. How times have changed! Now you give them your life savings and you stay just a few hours for a tonsillectomy.
