Jack Durham Marable honored at party

Jack Durham Marable, son of Mr. and Mrs. Brent Marable of Watkinsville, celebrated his second birthday with family and friends with a "Sundaes on Sunday" theme party at the Marable home on Sunday, July 23. His birthday was July 20.

As guests arrived, toddlers and children were entertained with bubbles, sidewalk chalk, gym balls and music.

Following the outside fun, guests enjoyed a birthday dinner of pork barbecue, Brunswick stew, chicken nuggets, fruit, baked beans, slaw, relish trays and cornbread. The barbecue and stew were a special treat prepared by Jack Durham's grandfather, Martin H. Burgess. Assisting in preparation of the barbecue and stew were Jack Durham's aunts, Molly Burgess and Maria Burgess Walker. Guests were encouraged to try the birthday party theme and create a "barbecue sundae" in a Mason jar.

The dinner buffet table held a beautiful arrangement of red and yellow Gerber daisies in Jack Durham's monogrammed birthday bucket. The children's buffet table held a large polka dot birthday hat accenting the blues, reds, oranges and yellows used in decorating. A special addition to the buffet table was a blue, yellow, green and red hand painted birthday plate to be used each year on Jack Durham's birthday, with the message "The Lord bless you and keep you the whole year through". This plate was a gift from Parker Varnadoe and family.

The porch held Jack Durham's birthday cupcakes iced in blue and red polka dots displayed on stacked cake stands and adjacent to the cake display was a large ice cream sundae buffet. Guests enjoyed creating ice cream sundaes to accompany the birthday cupcakes.

Favors of ice cream bowls and spoons filled with ice cream notepads, fruit snacks and bubbles were shared with the children in attendance.

Celebrating with Jack Durham and his parents were his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin H. Burgess of Washington, and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Marable of Watkinsville; great-grandmothers, Mrs. E. M. Wilkes and Mrs. Harold Marable, also of Watkinsville; sitters, Alice Marshall of Athens, Jacklen Rice of Watkinsville and Carmen Fagler and her mother, Mrs. Mari Joe Fagler, both of Adrian; godparents and children, Mr. and Mrs. Luke Moore, Norine and Silas, of Watkinsville; aunts and uncle, Molly Burgess of Athens, Mrs. Joel Walker of Lubbock, Tex., Mr. and Mrs. Gary Michael and Maggie of Watkinsville; great-uncles and aunts and families, Mrs. Jack Leard Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Jack Leard III and Kelsey, and Jake and Bailey Echols of Washington; Mr. and Mrs. John Richardson, Mrs. Tony Wall, Russell and Patrick, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Marable, all of Watkinsville; also, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Durham, Lizzie and Millie, Mr. and Mrs. Toby Smith, Hannah and Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Brandon Wilkes and Grady, Mr. and Mrs. Shannon Wilkes, Madison and Logan, and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Hayes, Jack and Addie, also all of Watkinsville.
