'Steel Magnolias' sets six performances due to ticket demand

Interest has been so high for the Washington Little Theater Co.'s fall opener, "Steel Magnolias," that six performances have been scheduled. This includes four evening presentations and two matinees.

The play opens on Friday, September 29, at 8 p.m. Other evening performances will be on September 30, October 6 and 7; and matinee performances will be on Sunday afternoons, October 1 and 8, at three o'clock..

The cast of "Steel Magnolias" features both veteran actors, Jerry Denard, Ginny King, Katie Leverett, Sarah Peacock, and Delaney Russell, and newcomers to the stage, Meredith Atwood and Judy Burkham (of Lincolnton).

Bolton Lunceford is the director and Joan Baker is associate director.

"Steel Magnolias is a play so deeply, truly Southern and so endearing that it is always welcomed," Director Lunceford said. "A fine play coupled with an unusually strong cast should make for some outstanding theater," she concluded.
