DIY landscape seminar set in Athens on September 9 You'd have a postcard-perfect yard, too, if you had the money to shell out for a professional landscape designer. You could fix it up yourself, but you're just not sure how to go about it. You're in luck. A one-day seminar, "Landscape Design Basics for the Do-It-Yourself Gardener," will provide all the basics of quality landscape design Saturday, Sept. 9, at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. The horticulture faculty of the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences will teach you: The elements of good landscape design, from site analysis to deciding the different use areas and laying out beds. How to prepare a working plan and what to consider when choosing plants. Good plant choices for landscape situations such as dry, wet or shady sites. How to make your landscape sparkle with seasonal color. The strengths of Georgia Gold Medal Plants, a collection of superior plants chosen by green-industry pros. Proper planting techniques to make your landscape a success. The seminar will begin with 8 a.m. registration in Room 148 of the Student Learning Center at UGA.
