For someone who walked five to seven miles a day for years and never had much of a weight problem, now I'm beginning to develop rolls and I don't mean the kind that you eat. Eating something besides your own cooking (all that good food friends have brought in) and not being able to do all that walking hasn't helped. All I'm doing is eating and reading. Have you ever noticed on the cover of every magazine there is something about a miracle weight loss and that sells the magazine? I've never heard of anyone really losing weight from these quick loss methods. You see these magazines at the check-out of your grocery stores with your basket full of doughnuts, cookies, and ice cream. Now I hear there is an exercise program that you can do while lying down. I think I will try that. I'll let you know if it works. I really appreciate all the cards, calls, visits, and food from so many people. I subscribed to Country magazine so that I could be sure and see the interview with Almond Standard in the August issue. Well, I got my magazine and he's not in there. I found out they are not sure when he will be in there, but I'm now getting the magazine so I will let everyone know when it does show up. I'm looking forward to it. I understand that he even built most of his furniture. We have a very talented man among us. Peggy and Donald Ware and Kathy and Stacy Ware went to Augusta Saturday. They stopped in Evans on their way home and visited with Karen Rogers and Price. We want to correct a mistake made last week. Ariel Brown who was baptized at Beulah Baptist is the daughter of Robin Brown, not April Brown. Daisy Parker and her sister, Esther Dawson, visited with Daisy's daughter Pam in Houston, Texas, recently. Pam and Phillip Barnwell and daughter Ginger had visited with Daisy and when they returned to Houston, Daisy and Esther went with them. They stayed a week and a half with the Barnwells. Daisy Parker attended the Parker family reunion in Forsyth on Sunday. Kathy and Dale Robertson of Dacula visited with Vivian and Louie Wolozin on Sunday. Vivian Campbell of Elberton spent the afternoon Sunday with Myrline Thornton. Kay and Alex Tyler visited Greg Tyler and family in Hoschton Sunday afternoon. Their grandson Caleb had a trip to the emergency room one day last week and his foot was bandaged up. He had been jumping out of a tree with an opened umbrella trying to be Superman. How many young boys haven't tried that trick before? At least Caleb didn't break his foot. He sounds so much like his dad, Greg, and his uncle, Jeff, when they were his age. Graydon and Pat Bobo attended the Baptist Assembly Senior Adult Ministry Development Seminars at Norman Park outside Moultrie. The Senior Adult III Sunday School Class of the Tignall Baptist Church enjoyed a cookout at Almond Standard's cabin Saturday afternoon. They cooked hamburgers and hotdogs and even roasted marshmallows over an open fire. Almond had fixed up a hay wagon and they had a hay ride. All these activities must have made them feel quite young again. There were about 20 people attending this funtime at Almond's. On Saturday, September 9, at 7 p.m., the Men's Ministry at Tignall Baptist Church will meet for fellowship. The guest speaker will be Tim Jordan from Elberton. There will be a meal served. The new Sunday School year at Tignall Baptist Church will begin with a brunch Sunday, September 3, from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. in the Family Life Center. Hope to see everyone there. Please contact Carol McTier about bringing breakfast type finger foods. Yes. There we were on page 35, along with Helen's Oktoberfest, North Georgia State Fair, and the Georgia Apple Festival, in the AJC Access Atlanta pull-out booklet, in the Thursday, August 24, edition of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the notice of the "I'd Rather Be In Tignall" Fall Festival. Elizabeth Cobb of the AJC writes: "Most have all the basics: arts, corndogs, funnel cakes and performers. We've picked a few [can you believe she picked ours] from the coming months, but check www.accessatlanta.com for more. Unless noted otherwise, all events below are free, but rides and food will cost you." Under the month of November (when our festival will occur), the quote continues as follows: "We don't think there is a better name than the "I'd Rather Be In Tignall" Fall Festival. It's enough to make us go with the sole purpose of procuring a T-shirt." The North Wilkes Steering Committee is still crowing!!
