Robert John Mays Graveside services for Robert "Bob" John Mays, 76, of Shady Valley Drive, Carrollton, formerly of Rayle, were held Monday, August 28, 2006, at the Old Camp United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. E.C. Chatham officiating. He died Friday, August 25. Mr. Mays was born in Hampton, Va., and was the son of the late Claude McKenzie Mays and Mamie Jim Foster Mays. He was the retired owner of Bob's Drive-In Grocery Store in Rayle and was of the Baptist faith and was a Mason. In his early years he played baseball for the American Legion. He had served as a sergeant in the United States Army, heavy artillery division, during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Polly Leonard Mays of Carrollton; a son, Mark Mays, Atlanta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Stacy Mays and Allen Gaston, Carrollton, and Julie Mays and Alex Thomas, Starkville, Miss.; a brother, Arthur Mays, Hapeville; and eight grandchildren, Kenzie, Sydney, Reed, and Rhett Gaston, Lexie, Grant, Delaney, and Cade Thomas.
