Tommy Walton enjoys shipmates reunion Tommy Walton accompanied his children, Mr. and Mrs. Shelby Thomas Walton of Lincolnton, on a trip to Washington, D.C., August 24-26 for a reunion of his shipmates that served on the tanker, USS Neeches, in the Pacific during World War II. The trip brought back memories of seeing the raising of the U.S. Flag on Iwo Jima and being anchored in Tokyo Bay by the USS Missouri when the Peace Treaty was signed. They stayed at the BWI Courtyard Marriott and visited the Navy memorial where the Navy color guard participated in a wreath-laying ceremony honoring those deceased. They enjoyed lunch at the famous Washington, D.C., Union Station. After lunch they visited the World War II Memorial, The FDR, Korean, Vietnam and Lincoln Memorials. Dinner was at the Naval Station Officers Club. After dinner they viewed the U.S. Marines Tattoo, a band and drill ceremony. Their last day in Washington was spent touring the White House.
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Zimmerman and Brian Walton stayed with Mrs. Tommy Walton during Mr. Walton's absence.
