Walker descendants meet at Fishing Creek Baptist Church Descendants of Daniel Lumpkin Walker and Margaret Elizabeth Stephenson Walker met at Fishing Creek Baptist Church on Sunday, August 20, for their annual reunion. This gathering marked the 86th year these reunions have been held and approximately 60 family members and guests attended. Many of the Walker families from this lineage have been closely affiliated with Fishing Creek Church for the past 100 years. The group gathered in the fellowship hall after church services for a covered dish lunch. Cobalt blue containers, each holding ferns and a single yellow Gerber daisy, were placed along the centers of the lime green covered tables giving the fellowship hall a festive look. Guests registered and selected colored stickers for their nametags. These colors represented the various Walker lineages and were color matched to descendant charts displayed on the walls. The charts, photo albums and various family documents were enjoyed throughout the day. Roger Walker welcomed the group and Phillip Bunch offered the blessing. After lunch Linda Walker Anthony gave a short history on the family's Revolutionary War ancestor, Nathaniel Walker (1724-1794). Shortly before the war Nathaniel settled near Blackville, S.C., in what is now Barnwell County. He was the founder and first minister of Healing Springs Baptist Church.
