Weather causes extra work; W-WMS Corner clubs meetings begin Sept. 15
By W-WMS SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADERS

Stormy weather has caused many problems for Washington-Wilkes Middle School this week. These storms caused teachers to do additional work and reenter student grades in the computer system. Athletic activities were interrupted and rescheduled for later dates.

Progress reports went home on Wednesday, September 6. September 5 was the first day for this year's after-school tutorial program. This program starts at 3:15 p.m. and ends at 5 p.m. and meets on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The students that were invited to participate in this free program received letters seeking permission from their parents.

The school fund-raiser will start September 21. This annual fundraiser will have middle school students selling cookie dough. The money raised from this fundraiser helps to pay for the many extra activities the middle school students are involved in. Fall pictures will be taken on Friday, September 8. All students need to have their pictures taken, as these will go in the yearbook. Packages will be ordered for students paying at the times the pictures are taken.

The recent rains caused the middle school football game with Elberton that was scheduled for August 31 to be rescheduled for September 5. We will provide details for this game in next week's article. Also, the girls softball game with Buford was cancelled because of rain.

Ninety-five students from eight area schools participated in a JV cross country meet on August 30. This coed race only had nine middle school runners in it. Tyler Stasyshyn was 11th out of 95 with a time of 22:47 on the 3.1-mile course. He was the top finishing middle school runner. Blake Amis was 33rd with a time of 25:55, Josh McLeroy was 38th at 26:16, Dixie Lee Trim was 42nd at 26:54, John Pope was 49th at 28:11, Rob Lovvorn was 64th at 31:52, and Angela Broome was 73rd at 34:34.

Finally, club meetings will begin on September 12. Students that signed up for 4-H will have club meetings during connections time. This year's Beta Club members will meet after school from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on this same day for their first meeting.
