Mr. and Mrs. Barry Martin of Chapel Hill, N.C., visited Mr. and Mrs. Evans Davis Tuesday evening. Also visiting them on Tuesday were Mr. and Mrs. Coryer Poss and Rev. and Mrs. O'Neil Martin. After attending the funeral of Bobby McCarty last Monday, Billy Collins of Newnan and Eddie Sorrells from Snellville spent the afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Ricky McCarty. Mrs. Juanita Bradford, Mrs. John Sutherland and Brad spent Wednesday in Augusta and enjoyed having lunch at Ryan's. That afternoon they visited Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Bradford in Thomson. Mrs. Bill Scoggins of Augusta visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Evans Davis, Monday afternoon. We were saddened by the death of Mrs. Margie Hopkins on Wednesday. Many friends and relatives attended her funeral Friday morning at Resthaven Cemetery. Sincere sympathy is extended to her family. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Lance enjoyed riding through the North Georgia Mountains Sunday. They visited the town of Helen, Brasstown Bald, and other sights. Mr. and Mrs. Scott Blaine of Dahlonega and their guests, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wommie Short of West Virginia, spent the weekend at their home here. They visited Mr. and Mrs. Evans Davis and accompanied them to services at Clifford's Grove Baptist Church Sunday. Mrs. Ricky McCarty attended a party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Edwards Saturday night honoring Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Holloway who were married recently. Mrs. Ricky McCarty visited Mrs. Cheryle Holsclaw in Union Point Sunday. James Sherrer had a nice quiet birthday Monday, August 28. He received a lot of cards and calls. That evening, Ray, Gay, Whitney, and Charlie joined us for cake and ice cream. On Wednesday night after prayer meeting, the nice friends at Wilkes County Baptist Church
surprised him with another celebration. They sang "Happy Birthday" and presented him with a beautiful cake. Everyone enjoyed it with ice cream. James had another surprise Saturday morning when Bill Ivey, a longtime family friend from King's Mountain, came to spend the night. Also coming to celebrate James' belated birthday were Edna Sherrer, Deborah and her husband, Ed Coxe of Bennetsville, S.C. They went to Carlton Saturday afternoon to put flowers on Esther Sherrer's grave. That evening they enjoyed dinner at the Mexican restaurant. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Sherrer and Nikki joined them Sunday. They all attended services at Wilkes County Baptist Church. Mr. Ivey left Sunday afternoon. The family members stayed until Monday afternoon. So you see, James Sherrer had a weeklong of birthday celebrations.
