Ashley Turner, Ames Barnett honored at engagement party The home of Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Denard on Tignall Road was the setting of an engagement party honoring Ashley Turner and Ames Barnett on Saturday evening, August 19. Hosts and hostesses with Mr. and Mrs. Denard were Mr. and Mrs. Gene Anthony, Mr. and Mrs. James Baston, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bennett, Mrs. Renee Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Tim Crook, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Drinkard, Mr. and Mrs. Joey Fievet, Mr. and Mrs. Tim Hansford, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Harvey, Mrs. Laura Houpt, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Keener, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Kirkland, Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Lindsey, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Moore, Mr. and Mrs. Steve DeShazo, and Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Wells. For the occasion the bride-elect wore a red satin and silk cocktail dress fashioned with a halter neckline and ruche bodice accessorized with red stone chandelier earrings. The home and gardens were beautifully decorated for the festive occasion. Torches marked the driveway and gardens. They also outlined the front walk leading to the wide porch steps. The front porch was welcoming with seating for guests on white settees, chairs and a swing. The open air side patio was also lined with torches and held round guest tables covered with white cloths with silver damask overlays. Each table was centered with a tall pedestal vase filled with pink gladioli. In the foyer a round antique table held the guest book and a floral mirror on a tabletop easel. The mirror was framed with white pink and hot pink roses and embellished with a silver B monogram in the center. It was presented to the bride-elect by her hostesses. Heavy hors d'oeuvres were beautifully presented on the dining room table using silver appointments. Centering the table was a large floral arrangement of pink, hot pink and white roses, gerbera daisies, curly willow, and lemon leaf in a beautiful Waterford compote. The beverage station was decorated with a tall crystal cylinder vase of pink gladioli and pussy willow. A round crystal bowl with key limes and calla lilies centered the breakfast room table. Miss Turner and Mr. Barnett presented each hostess a Chantilly white beverage pitcher.
Over 150 Washington-Wilkes and out-of-town family members and guests attended the celebration. Special guests for the occasion were members of the wedding party and family of the engaged couple that included parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Turner of Lawrenceville and Mr. and Mrs. Danny Barnett of Washington; and the prospective bridegroom's grandmother, Mrs. W.T. McWhorter of Lincolnton.
