Homecoming queen to be crowned at halftime Sept. 22
Homecoming activities started weeks ago, as WashingtonWilkes Comprehensive High School students elected members of the homecoming court. Each senior homeroom submitted its preferences for the top five young women and top four young men in the class. They chose seniors Brooke Hardigree, Diundra Doughty, Latoya Hardeman, Shaneesia Williams, and Elizabeth Duggan. One of these five will be elected Homecoming Queen by vote of the entire student body. The four young men seeking the Homecoming King's crown are Dywane Hampton, Clete Wilson, Brantley Walker, and Patrell Turman. The king will be crowned Thursday night at the pep rally and bonfire at Tiger Stadium. Students in the ninth, tenth, and eleventh grades selected two representatives each for the queen's court. Chosen ninth graders are Yakira Banks and Taylor Echols; tenth grade representatives are Lindsey Guin and Fatima Oguje; and the eleventh graders are Priscilla Oguje and Ashley Burt. All week, the high school will keep up the Tiger spirit with traditional spirit days: Wednesday is Pajama Day, Thursday is Ole Skool Day, and the week ends with Blue and Gold Friday.
Thursday night will bring out the Tiger Band and cheerleaders to fire up the crowds with a pep rally and bonfire at 7:45. The Homecoming court will practice at Tiger Field beginning at 7:15.
