Winterville to salute veterans' service on Veterans Day In observance of Veterans Day on November 11, there will be an appreciation day held in Winterville, using as a theme, "Thanks for Our Freedom." The program will begin at 11 a.m. and continue through lunch. Veterans of all wars will be welcomed, recognized, and thanked for their sacrifices and the sacrifices of their families. Veterans who wish to attend are asked to call representatives in their counties or Ted Ridgeway at 706-540-5675. The representative for Wilkes County is Walter Standridge, 706678-7642. In surrounding counties, Dr. Bobby Durham is the Greene County representative, 706-4532471; and Charles Hopkins in Elbert County, 706-213-2040.
In addition to military veterans, men and women who worked in defense plants during World War II will be recognized and thanked for their effort to defeat Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, and Imperial Japan during that war.
