Hero Cookie Day: sweet salute for emergency service workers

Putting baskets together for the Little River Hero Cookie Day are (lr) Dell James, Ann Chafin, Georgia Lee Fletcher, Zella Bennett, and Francis Hudson.
The Little River family of churches which includes Bethel UMC, Mount Zion UMC, and Smyrna UMC, again said "thank you" to different community organizations for all that they do day in and day out with their third annual Hero Cookie Day.

This year, Ann Chafin was the lead organizer for the successful event. Members from all three churches baked or bought 20 baskets of cookies and met at the church parsonage on the morning of 9/11 to put them together. After opening in prayer and bagging all the cookies, members from the church gave the baskets to different organizations within the community who provide emergency services to area residents.

Trips were made and cookies delivered to smiling faces at the hospital, the police station, the fire station, and many other locations. Pastor Craig Yoshihara said, "This was a wonderful effort by the women and men of our churches who simply wanted to show their love and gratitude to our local heroes as we remember the many sacrifices that were made on this day five years ago by many fine men and women." This event not only brought smiles to those receiving the baskets but to those giving them as well.

"It's just a great way to combine fellowship and fun while showing God's love in a practical way," said Yoshihara.
