It's September and I love the weather. It's much better to me with cool nights and cooler days. Soon the leaves will be turning to gorgeous colors of yellow, brown, and red. It will soon be time to take a trip to the mountains and enjoy getting away. I hope to go for my birthday in October. We had a wonderful day at Ebenezer Baptist Church Sunday. Rev. Huyck's sermon was on right or wrong with scripture from II Timothy 3:15-17. Our attendance was good with several visitors. Separate flowers were placed to honor Mr. and Mrs. Bob Marett by Jacquelyn Johnson and to honor Mrs. Annie Kate (Pete) Strother on her 90th birthday. On Saturday at the church, Bob Marett was honored on his 60th birthday by his family. It was a fun event and lots of good food and fellowship. Many of Phyllis and Bob's families were present. I went to Oglethorpe County Elementary School Friday for grandparents day. My grandson, Tanner, is a fifth grade student there. I was impressed. They had a program for us, refreshments in their classrooms, and dinner for all who wanted to stay. We even had our picture made together. Tanner and I went to his home and visited a while, then he came home with me to spend Friday night and Saturday. He went home Saturday afternoon. Mitch Taylor and friend Ridge, Linda and Peyton Standard visited Mrs. Sara Huff during the weekend. Sara visited Sherry Newsome, Linda Standard and Peyton, and Miss Grace Dunnaway during the weekend. We had a little excitement in our community recently. Regina Dunnaway's son, Curtis Holt, killed a big rattlesnake in front of Tommy and Regina's driveway. He ran over it. It had eight rattlers and about five days later (Friday) Wade ran over one at the mailbox. It had to be shot by Alec. It had eight rattlers too - pretty big snakes. So, be very careful. This is on Big Cedar Road. On Labor Day weekend, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Dunnaway spent four days and nights in Cherokee, N.C. Mr. and Mrs. Wade Dunnaway, Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Mann, and Jeff Mann joined them for a visit. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shank of Lexington, S.C., visited Mrs. Dot Shank on Labor Day weekend. Judy also visited Mrs. Frances Shank in Washington. Mrs. Lucille Ingram, Trudy Ingram, Mrs. Lona Chesnut, Mrs. Matthew Ryll, Connor and Calley, spent the weekend in Hayesville, N.C., with Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Davenport and Tyler. They all helped Tyler celebrate his first birthday. Jeannie and Jennifer Bruce and Mrs. Bobby Myers attended a birthday party for Jackson Calhoun in Augusta last weekend. He was celebrating his fourth birthday. Speaking of birthdays, we would like to wish Mrs. Pete Strother, Lathan Roberson, G.T. Hall, Joe Harris, and Sara Nell Myers happy birthdays this week. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Phillips carried Rebecca Phillips home to Conyers after a visit during the Labor Day weekend. The Phillipses, along with Stephanie Haynes, Chip and Skyla, enjoyed a trip to the North Georgia mountains last Saturday. Victory Baptist Church had a special program for a memorial to 911 Sunday. The Phillipses and the Hayneses attended and enjoyed dinner afterwards. Brenda Phillips saw a red fox in her yard Sunday. Her dog alerted her by barking on and on and running

around and barking more. It seems there is never a dull moment in our neighborhood. I went to Augusta and Lincolnton this past week. I had dinner with my parents, the Wallaces, on Sunday. My sister, Nan Goff, and her husband, and my brother Garnett Wallace also visited. Our prayer concerns include the Hopkins and Linares families, the Wallace Wheatley family, the Lydia Fanning family, the Bobby McCarty family, the Katherine Earnest Poss family, the Frances E. Blakey family, the Mildred Cosby family, the Alfred Thomas family, Rev. Jack Reynodls, John L. Bray, Mary Lawrence, Beth Keener, Tommy Edmunds' son, Denise and Jimmy Edmunds, Barry Bailey, Gary Rogers, Libby Ivey, Mike Webb, Tony Hogan, Billy Niemann, Joe Griffin, Ebenezer's elderly and shut-in, Mrs. Lucy McCarty, Henry Wallace, Sanders Dallis, Danny Aycock, Rev. Thompson Holloman, Pete Poss, Stephanie Chapman, Evans Davis, Karin Lindsey, Warren and Lois Nunn, Judy Nunn, Kathryn Padgett, Linda Albea, Grace Dunnaway, Asa Bennett, James McClearen, Virginia McClearen, Mary McClearen,

Ebenezer's search committee, Mrs. Willie Ruth Freeman, Thomas Wheatley, Eddie Howard, Carol Howard, the Lloyd Johnson Jr. family, the Ben Fleming family, the Lou Bertha Willis family, the Joseph Cleveland Jr. family, the Mark Harper family and the Johnny Poteet family. Beverly Teasley of Lincoln County came by and picked up Miss Grace Dunaway and Alec Dunaway and carried them to Arnoldsville Sunday to have dinner and visit with Mrs. MacLinda Teasley Erwin. Other visitors of the Dunaways were Sara Huff, Linda Standard, and Bobbie Thornton. I attended the funeral of one of my classmates, Katherine Earnest Poss, in Lincoln County Thursday. Katherine was one of the sweetest, most kind and gentle friend I ever had. She lost her husband, Gene Poss, and her daughter, Angie P. Blackburn. She is survived by one son, Gene Poss Jr. The funeral was held at Pine Grove UMC where I grew up. It's 10 p.m. and I'm sorry I couldn't reach some of you this week, so please call me if you have news for our area.
