Amberly Aycock, Phil Roberts honored at buffet September 9 "Love Conquers All" was the theme of a drop-in buffet honoring engaged couple, Amberly Aycock of Lincolnton and Phil Roberts of Washington, on Saturday evening, September 9, at the home of Jacquelyn Johnson on the Lincolnton Road. Co-hosts with Miss Johnson were Mr. and Mrs. Sparky Newsome. Miss Aycock, a former Lincoln County Red Devil cheerleader, and Mr. Roberts, a former WashingtonWilkes Tiger football and baseball player, plan to wed in early December. For the party the guests of honor were dressed in their team colors. Miss Aycock wore a red knit top and white capris with a red and white polka-dotted headband. A facepainted "LC" adorned her cheek. Mr. Roberts' casual attire included a blue and white plaid shirt. Her corsage and his boutonniere were done in blue, gold, red and white with accents of Tiger paws and Red Devil pitchforks. The couple's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Aycock of Lincolnton and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Roberts of Washington, were also dressed in team colors. Mrs. Aycock also sported a picture button of her daughter in her cheerleader uniform enhanced with red and white streamers. Mrs. Roberts had a picture button of her son in his baseball uniform enhanced with blue and gold streamers. In addition she wore a Tiger pin and had a face-painted Tiger paw on her cheek. Festive decorations were used both inside and out. Tables in the front yard were decorated with red and white balloons and blue and gold flowers. Ferns flanked the front entrance and one had an extra touch of Lincoln County Red Devils and Washington-Wilkes Tiger pennants. Upon entering the house, guests, many dressed in their team colors, signed the mat around a framed pic ture of the couple. This was later presented to the couple by the hosts as a gift. Candles were used throughout the party areas along with other festive decorations, all in keeping with the party theme. Blue and gold and red and white pompons were placed about with numerous other items of Red Devil and Tiger memorabilia which included older pictures and football programs. A Red Devil blanket was an added touch in the den. Candy dishes held M&M's also sorted and served in team colors. In the dining room, the sideboard featured a blue and gold floral arrangement flanked by a Red Devil football helmet and cheerleader doll. About this were Red Devil and Tiger hand fans. A large white sheet cake centered the dining table. The cake was cut in squares and each was decorated with alternating Red Devil pitchforks and Tiger paws. White tapers flanked the cake. A white cloth covered the table and a large basket held the cutlery wrapped in napkins and secured with "Love Conquers All" strips. From the table guests enjoyed delicious barbecue, wings, chicken strips, coleslaw, baked beans, Georgia caviar, Tiger Butter and cake. Assorted soft drinks completed the menu. Miss Aycock and Mr. Roberts presented their hosts hand-painted Red Devil and Tiger Christmas ornaments.
Sixty guests were invited. Out-oftown guests attending in addition to the bride-elect's parents were Mr. and Mrs. Guil Mattison, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Mattison, Mr. and Mrs. Butch Mattison, Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Spratlin, Mr. and Mrs. Rusty Spratlin, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Spratlin, Mr.and Mrs. John Spratlin IV, and Mr. and Mrs. Eddy Turner of Lincolnton; and Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Blizzard of Appling.
