Saving grace
By GARY TOOLE
How many times do you go in a fast food joint and see

folks, even families, gobble down their food without recognizing the giver of life, the giver of t his food?

The one t hat gives the rain of which without we would not make food so we would all die. The creator who made the little bee to pollinate fruits and vegetables of which without we would fie of malnutrition.

Mankind cannot live by "Big Macs" alone. Amen! You need some turnip greens along now and then whether you like them or not. If you are from the old school like I am, then it should bother you when folks don't give thanks.

Now, don't get me wrong. The old school doesn't mean I'm old - just seasoned. I started to say that I hate to say this, but I don't.

My father used to preach that folks can be so unthankful like to old hog that eats acorns under the old oak tree and never looks u p to see where they come from. Amen!

When some folks give thanks in a public place they act like they are ashamed and they do it very quietly and inconspicuously. I used to be that way until I got closer to God and I realized according to His word that if we act like we are ashamed of Him then He will be ashamed of us and not recognize us. Let me tell you, "I want all the recognition from God that I can get!" And furthermore, when I say the grace publicly I say it unashamedly as an example to others.

We need to stand for the Lord. Anywhere and everywhere! Speaking of that, this one fellow from way back when, asked to pray for someone right there on the street he would kneel and pray for them right then and there, so if you were ashamed you had better not ask him to pray for you while on the street.

The best portrayal of saying grace was Norman Rockwell's painting of this granny and her grandson in a diner among a bunch of rough neck thugs and they were bowing their heads and saying grace.

When I was coming up, before each meal we would say grace together and my dad added to the grace, " Save us, dear Lord," which was more important than our physical need. We said, "God is great, God is good! Let us thank Him for this food, for this home, and for every blessing! Save us, dear Lord, in Jesus name. Amen!"
