Cookie dough sale begins today; proceeds to fund many activities

This has been a great week at Washington-Wilkes Middle School. Congratulations to Carol McTier, the new parent member for the Middle School Council. Mrs. McTier was recently elected and will join Ruby Fanning, M.V. Booker, Ronnie Huffman, Sara Jaudon, Al Dawkins, and Bill Pendrey. This council meets once a month at the middle school with the next meeting scheduled for September 26 at 5:15 p.m.

Private Matthew Shelton of Metasville visited Gloria Rhodes' seventh grade career explorations class on Tuesday, September 5. He talked to the class about his training in the Marine Corps. The class particularly enjoyed the question and answer session that followed. Pvt. Shelton had to depart for Fort Legune, N.C., where he continues his training as a mechanic. When questioned about the war in Iraq, he responded, "If called to go, I'll be ready!"

Rain caused the girls softball game against Oglethorpe to be rescheduled and it was played on September 20. The team will also play Putnam County on October 26 in Putnam at 4:30 p.m. The middle school cross country team will participate in a special middle school meet on Saturday, September 23, in Oglethorpe County.

W-W defeated Wrens 20-16 in football. Deon Jackson led the team in scoring with two touchdowns followed by Eric Scott with one touchdown. Quarterback Teverous Jones connected with Desmond Jackson on a great 40-yard pass. Coach Keiser praised the defense for holding Wrens on the three yard line twice in the game. Coach Keiser is proud of the team for a tremendous effort and a great win. W-W's record improves to 2-0. The next game for the team will be September 21 in Oglethorpe County. The game will start at 5 p.m.

Don't forget about the middle school cookie dough fund-raiser. This fund-raiser starts today. The money raised from this fund-raiser helps to pay for the many extra activities the middle school students are involved in.
