Gingerbread house competition added to list of fun things planned for fall festival on Nov. 4

The North Wilkes Steering Committee (NWSC) is sponsoring a "gingerbread house competition" in conjunction with the I'd Rather Be in Tignall Fall Festival to be held Saturday, November 4, at the old school grounds in Tignall.

The committee has given the following information about entering the contest:

Who qualifies, categories, entry fee, prizes - The competition is open to everyone, except NWSC members and their families. Entry forms on this page must be received by mail or hand delivered by Wednesday, November 1, to Nobie Keener, 197 N. Hulin Avenue, Tignall, GA 30669, (706-285-3232).

The categories are as follows: adult; teens, 13-17 years old; youth, 12 years old and under. The entry fee is $5.00

Prizes in each category will be first place, blue ribbon; second, red ribbon; third, yellow ribbon; and $50.00 for best in the show.

Size, subject and judging criteria - The gingerbread entry is not to exceed two feet in height, two feet in width, or two feet in depth, including the board used as a base. We suggest using half-inch or threefourths inch plywood as a base for your entry. Alternative versions of

house are acceptable. Entries must be made primarily of gingerbread and will be judged in five categories: overall appearance; originalitycreativity; difficulty; precision; and consistency of theme. All rulings by the judges (to be named at a later date) are independent and final and in no way are influenced by anyone associated with the NWSC.

Product list - The entry must be made completely of edible products,

except for the base and the structure must be primarily gingerbread. Edible materials are not limited to sweets. No artificial display materials, such as styrofoam or interior lighting, are to be used in the construction of the house. Candies must be unwrapped.

Delivery - Gingerbread houses must be delivered to the lunchroom of the Old Tignall School, Independence Street, Tignall (street next to the North Wilkes Library), on Friday, November 3, between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., with the competitor's

name labeled at the front of the base. Entries that are not pre-registered will not be accepted. Contestants will receive a competition number as confirmation of receipt of their gingerbread house. Entries will be judged Friday afternoon, November 3, at 6:30 p.m. Winners will be announced and ribbons awarded at the I'd Rather Be in Tignall Fall Festival at 11 a.m.

Houses will be on display during the festival and throughout the day and may be picked up after 5 p.m. on the day of the festival.
