James Carlton Bailey Funeral services for James Carlton (Carl) Bailey, 84, of Hulin Avenue, Tignall, were held Wednesday, September 20, 2006, at the Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Edwards and Rev. Jamie Callaway officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. He died Sunday, September 17, at his home. Mr. Bailey was born in Lincoln County and had lived in Tignall for the past 22 years. He was the son of the late Joel R. Bailey and Mae Walker Bailey. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II and was a retired firefighter for the Department of the Army. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Ground Observation Corps for the United States Air Force. He was a deacon emeritus of the Beulah Baptist Church, was a Mason and member of Hiram Lodge #51. He was a Shriner and member of the Alee Temple and York Rite and was a member of the Beulah Baptist Church. He was a prison guard at the Prisoner of War Camp at Camp Gordon, Augusta, now Fort Gordon. Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Cleveland Bailey of Tignall; two sons, James Carlton Bailey Jr. and his wife Sharon of Tignall, and Thomas C. Bailey and his wife Diane of Washington; a daughter, Teresa Bailey Rodgers and her husband Steve of Saluda, S.C.; a brother, Robert L. Bailey, Augusta; and six grandchildren, Jim Bailey, Louis Bailey, Justin Rodgers, Kayla Rodgers, Shelby Bailey, and Olivia Bailey. Memorial contributions may be made to the Beulah Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Vera Harper, 2556 Elberton Highway, Tignall 30668.
