W-W Garden Club hears program on spider lilies at Sept. 14 meeting

The Washington-Wilkes Garden Club met Thursday, September 14, at the Tignall Library and enjoyed a program on spider lilies.

Mabel Johnson presented the program giving some of the characteristics of this interesting flower noting that the bloom and stem appear in August and September with the greenery appearing only in the winter months.

Prior to her program Mrs. Johnson, president, opened the meeting with a devotional.

During the short business meeting she shared with the members a Certificate of Appreciation the club had received for their gift to "Greening of the Gulf Coast".

Members also voted to make a donation to the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc., State Headquarters in Athens in honor of member Mae Butler.

Mrs. Johnson showed a picture to the club of a very unusual fir tree in Clayton that she had taken while on a trip to this North Georgia area.

Louise Harper and Paula Butts served delicious refreshments during a time of fellowship.

Present were Celeste Adams, Dr. Sophia Bamford, Iris Corbett, Faye Durham, Mabel Johnson, Sally Kennedy, Pat Mack, Genevieve Thurmond, Mary Webster, Louise Harper and Paula Butts with her granddaughter, Harper Smith.
